Gas Transmssion/Pipeline Designer, Santa Ana, CA


Position Summary: 

Gas Transmission Designers prepare design drawings for gas transmission and dsitribution projects using AutoCAD Civil 3D and/or Microstation V7/V8 software, primarily involving gas pipelines, compressor and regulating stations, with emphasis on safety, accuracy, quality, cost effectiveness, and customer satisfaction


Essential Functions:

  • Work with a team of Cordoba, client and subcontract engineers and designers to complete the design for pipeline, compressor and regulator station upgrades.
  • The work may include front end design, detail design, quality assurance review, construction support and startup involvement, as-built drawings and close-out activities.
  • Ensure and maintain compliance with applicable company and client standards and procedures.
  • Attend meetings with clients, subcontractors, vendors and governing agencies.
  • Prepare pipeline alignment drawings and details.
  • Prepare compressor and regulating station plans, sections and details.
  • Include piping and conduit routing and foundation locations as directed by the project, mechanical, electrical, controls systems and civil engineers.
  • Review vendor design to ensure compliance with project technical requirements.
  • Participate in squad checks and quality control reviews to ensure accurate, high quality deliverables.
  • Contribute to the development and implementation of department and company goals.
  • Identify and implement improvements in processes and operations to control costs and improve productivity.
  • Participate in special projects or tasks as required.


Knowledge and Critical Skills/Expertise

  • Minimum 5 years of related work experience with 3 years experience in pipelines or compressor stations for gas utilities.
  • BS in Mechanical Engineering or related field.
  • AutoCAD and/or MicroStation training.
  • Compressor station experience for gas utilities, design and project work for gas utility, and or preparation of design criteria documents, technical reports and layout of piping and related equipment for new transmission and gas lines, as well as expansions preferred.
  • Strong Communication skills with the ability to interface with clients and project management team.


Physical Demands and Requirements:

  • Ability to sit for long durations
  • Ability to visit job sites within the Company’s service territory is required, including the traversing of uneven terrain.
  • A valid California Driver’s License is required.
