Sr. Cost Engineer, Fresno, CA


Position Summary: 

The Senior Cost Engineer is responsible for analysis and reporting of project costs and the administration of the organization’s cost tracking system


Essential Functions:

  • Manages and participates in the detailed analysis and reporting of project costs utilizing established project control systems
  • Administers and provides training and support for the cost tracking system
  • Coordinates with teams responsible for project execution to insure project progress is being reported and recorded in the established project control systems
  • Participates along with the project team in project planning and initiation including task/work order scoping, and project budgeting
  • Define the initial project budget based on SME input and baseline upon approval
  • Review and analyze Change Order requests that impact project budgets
  • Supervises and trains Cost Engineering staff
  • Prepares with staff monthly summary level cost reports for Program Management
  • Organizes and maintains the integrity of cost information being collected and reported on
  • Participate in project risk assessments and discussions to identify impacts to project budget
  • Define and develop additional reports and reporting metrics as needed or requested
  • Assists customers and colleagues on issues and requests associated with project cost tracking and analysis
  • Conduct internal team meetings and prepare team communications as needed


Knowledge and Critical Skills/Expertise

  • BS degree in Business Administration, Engineering, Construction Management, or a closely-related field
  • At least seven (7) years’ experience in project controls and analyzing costs, preferably with construction programs
  • Proficiency in project management software i.e. MS Project or P6
  • Familiarity with Enterprise Project Management Cost Tracking systems
  • Expert MS Excel user including Pivot Tables, Data Connections and Macros
  • Familiarity with estimating software i.e. Sage/Timberline and HCSS
  • Experience with Business Intelligence (BI) Tools and Digital Dashboards desirable
  • Knowledge of utility projects
  • Excellent communication skills, both orally and written including written reports, summaries, and presentations
  • Employment authorization to work in the United States immediately


Physical Demands and Requirements:

  • Ability to work minimum of 40 hours plus per week in an office setting.
  • A valid California Driver’s License is required
