Laney College Athletic Fields and Field House Complex
Peralta Community College District
Cordoba Corporation was selected as a qualified firm to perform services for the Peralta Community College District's District-wide Modernization and Construction Program. The Peralta Community College District is comprised of four campuses including two in Oakland, one in Berkeley and one in Alameda.
The first assignment is to provide construction management oversight services on the Laney College Athletic Fields and Field House Complex. This design-build project is valued at $18 million and consists of the demolition and construction of a field house as well as a parking lot. The baseball, track and soccer fields are also being re-configured and re-constructed. The project runs along an environmentally sensitive estuary and above safety tunnels for underground rail (BART). Further, it is on a fast track in order to minimize disruption to the athletic teams that still require access to facilities. Part of the project staging will require the use of a student parking lot and relocation planning in a dense downtown parking environment.
Cordoba Corporation is providing construction management oversight services on behalf of the District. This assignment is particularly significant because it is the first design/build project of any kind undertaken by the District.
As an added benefit, Cordoba conducted an evaluation of the feasibility of incorporating photovoltaic panels into the field house complex. LEED Silver standards were initially targeted for the project. However, with the installation of photovoltaic panels, the project is now aiming to qualify for LEED Gold Certification. We assisted the design/build contractor with incorporating the plans for photovoltaic panels that will be installed on a standing seam metal roof and will also provide a shade structure for the parking lot.
