Mr. Sharer is an environmental scientist with over forty years of work experience in the environmental compliance related field including mitigation and monitoring. He is also experienced as a health and safety manager and applies these skills as he works with federal, state and local regulatory agencies on air, water, and soils. Mr. Sharer has negotiated with principals, consultants and regulatory agencies on a variety of remediation projects. Walt Sharer has worked on a number of phases of the Owens Lake Dust Mitigation Program. The Owens Valley Dry Lake Bed is on the United States Environmental Protection Agency’s list of Serious Non-Attainment for PM10 emissions. Mr. Sharer’s responsibilities have included ensuring acquisition of required permits, monitoring of hazardous materials and dust control during construction, environmental mitigation oversight, monitoring of air quality, inspections and observations of contractor activities related to the biological resources abundant at Owens Lake. He has also provided cultural awareness training so that contractors know what constitutes cultural resources and how to respond appropriately, and the monitoring of nuisances and hazards. In addition, he has worked with ESA pertaining to the resident Snowy Plover, burrowing owl and migratory bird act.
