Peralta Community College District District-Wide Modernization and Construction Program

Oakland, CA

Cordoba Corporation was selected as a qualified firm to perform ongoing construction management services for the Peralta Community College District’s District-wide Modernization and Construction Program. The first of our assignments was to provide construction management services on the Laney College Athletic Fields and Field House Complex. The Project consisted of the demolition and construction of an 18,000 sq. ft. field house as well as a parking lot. Completed in 2012, this $18 million project received LEED Gold® certification. The baseball and soccer fields were re-configured and re-constructed. The project runs along an environmentally sensitive estuary, and met an aggressive schedule to minimize disruption to the athletic teams.

Cordoba Corporation provided construction management services and worked with Gilbane Construction, the design-build contractor. This assignment is also significant because it was the first design-build project of any kind undertaken by the District. Cordoba staff led the District through procurement, design, and construction of the project. Additionally, a solar panel array was part of the initial planning at this site. Originally, it was going to be a separate phase with installation coordinated through a third party. As part of our oversight, Cordoba Corporation personnel assisted with the development of the scope of work with Chevron and assisted in integrating the installation of the photovoltaic array into the Gilbane Construction design-build contract, saving time and money for the project while minimizing impact to the campus. Solar panels installed on the parking lot roof generate 340,000 kWh per year, enough on-site electricity to save the District $350,000 within the first five years of use.
