The Mexican Museum, founded in 1975, is the nation’s oldest institution dedicated to Mexican, Mexican American, Latin American, and Chicano art, and it has long served as a cultural bridge connecting these artistic traditions with broader audiences. Now preparing to move into its permanent home in San Francisco’s Yerba Buena cultural district, the Museum is poised to expand both its visibility and impact. The Mexican Museum Its new location—situated within one of the city’s most vibrant arts corridors—will establish it as an iconic gathering place where Latinx residents and visitors can explore a rich continuum of heritage, creativity, and contemporary expression. As it transitions into this purpose-built space, the Museum is positioned to become a central cultural anchor, deepening community engagement and elevating the presence of Latinx art within the national arts landscape.
