Los Angeles International Airport (LAX) is the sixth busiest airport in the world. In 2023, it recorded a volume of over 75 million passengers. With an eye toward maintaining safety and modern infrastructure, $15 billion has been allocated. These investments will create improved access and facility expansion. Plans also target the anticipated increase in passenger traffic corresponding to the 2028 Olympics to be hosted in Los Angeles. Cordoba Corporation has supported several improvements projects since 2004.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Cordoba\u2019s Role<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

In February 2024, Cordoba Corporation was awarded one of the Multiple Award Task Order Contracts. The work will include project management, construction management, project controls, inspection, testing, and additional professional services for the Capital Improvement Program and other key initiatives, on an as-needed basis.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

  • Security Program<\/strong> \u2013 In-Line Baggage Handling & Screening Systems, LAX North Terminals Project (Terminal 3) \u2011\u2011 The $192 million program included construction\/replacement of outbound baggage conveyor systems and installation\/integration of new Explosive Detection System (EDS) machines. It also includes construction of On-Screen Resolution Control Rooms, Baggage Inspection Rooms, Explosion Trace Detection (ETD) workstations, and closed-circuit television (CCTV) systems. Cordoba worked on this project as a member of the quality control team and supported contract related activities, schedules, testing, and sampling.

  • Southern Airfield Improvement Project<\/strong> \u2013 Completed in 2008, the project involved Runway 25L\/7R project included removing and rebuilding the southern runway, building a taxiway between the parallel runways and shoring up the Sepulveda Boulevard tunnel under the runways to accommodate the massive Airbus A380. Cordoba staff provided quality control program administration as a subcontractor to the construction team. Work included interfacing with outside testing laboratories and maintaining quality control records of all tests and inspections.

  • Runway Status Lights Infrastructure Project<\/strong> \u2013 As a member of the contractor\u2019s team, Cordoba supported the quality control program and acted as on-site QC engineer.
