The National Community College Hispanic Council named George L. Pla, Founder & CEO of Cordoba, a Líderes con Legado Honoree at its Concilio 2026 Leadership Symposium in Washington, D.C., recognizing his decades-long commitment to civic engagement, educational access, and community-centered infrastructure development.
Pla, a nationally recognized business leader, author, and philanthropist, is being recognized for his work advancing opportunities for underserved communities, strengthening California’s public institutions, and championing pathways that support student achievement and workforce mobility. His career reflects a deep belief in the power of education to transform lives — a theme central to this year’s Symposium.
As Founder & CEO of Cordoba, Pla leads one of the nation’s most respected civil engineering and program management firms, delivering projects that improve transportation, energy, water, and educational facilities across California. Beyond his corporate leadership, he serves as President of the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum Commission and sits on the Board of LA28, helping prepare the region for the 2028 Olympic and Paralympic Games.
In accepting the honor, Pla emphasized the role education plays throughout his life and career. “Education opens every door for me,” he says. “It shapes my path, my purpose, and my commitment to public service. This recognition is really about the educators, mentors, and institutions that invest in students every day — and about ensuring future generations have the same opportunities to learn, lead, and succeed.”
The Concilio Symposium brings together leaders across education, government, philanthropy, and industry to highlight strategies that advance equity, opportunity, and community development. This year’s honor underscores the Symposium’s focus on elevating individuals whose work bridges sectors and creates lasting public benefit.
